Baseball Adds Dayton Dalman for 2009-10

Former Nashville (Ill.) High School standout Dayton Dalman joins the Cougars baseball team for 2009-10

CHICAGO – Chicago State baseball head coach Michael Caston has announced the addition of downstate baseball player Dayton Dalman (Nashville, Ill.) to the Cougars starting in 2009-10 school year.

Dalman heads to the Windy City after lettering for three seasons as a pitcher-infielder at downstate Nashville High School in Nashville, Ill. He posted a 6-3 record on the mound with a 3.40 ERA while batting .310 with a team-leading four home runs and 31 RBI for the Hornets, who finished 20-9 on the season. For his efforts, Dalman earned Second Team All-Southern Illinois River-to-River Conference accolades.

Dalman recently described to www.gocsucougars.com about some of the factors that helped him choose the Cougars after being recruited late in the spring season.

“I talked to CSU assistant coach Neal Frendling on the phone and I came up to the school for a tour of the campus,” Dalman stated. “The campus seemed nice to me then Coach Frendling told me that the program was on a turnaround after having some down years recently and that he needed another arm for the pitching staff. It gives me a chance to play college baseball especially at the NCAA Division I level which would be really great.”

The Cougars and Frendling are looking forward to having a good student-athlete like Dalman joining the pitching staff this fall in preparation for the upcoming spring season in which CSU will begin its first full season as a member of the Great West Conference.

“Dayton is a huge addition for us both on the field and in the classroom,” Frendling stated. “We feel that he will be a great addition to our pitching staff and he is an all-around athlete.”

In addition, Dalman will study pharmacy in the university's new College of Pharmacy program on campus which was an added bonus in him coming to CSU.

“Right now, the pharmacy department is kind of the school's main focus, which is comforting to know that Chicago State is really pushing for this program,” added Dalman. “It is nice to see that people are behind me that want to see me succeed within in the program.”

Dalman will join fellow newcomers Miguel Camacho (Chicago, Ill.), Andy Fitzpatrick (Bremen, Ill.), Billy Les (Oak Lawn, Ill.), Christian Prince (Hudsonville, Mich.), Colton Tortorello (Mundelein, Ill.) and Luc Faron (St. Peters, Mo.) on the field for fall practice beginning in September.
