CHICAGO – Chicago State baseball and second-year head coach Michael Caston has announced the recent addition of St. Louis-area native Luc Faron to the team starting with the upcoming 2009-10 school year.
Faron, a native of St. Peters, Mo., captured Academic All-Gateway Athletic Conference South Division honors this past spring for Francis Howell Central High School and lettered for three years in baseball as a pitcher/infielder. He batted .328 with a pair of home runs during his senior campaign. He also competed in football, basketball and swimming at Howell Central, where he was a captain of the swim team as a senior.
Faron recently told www.gocsucougars.com the main factors that helped him choose the Cougars after being recruited late in the spring season.
“One thing that I liked about CSU and the baseball team was that Coach (Neal) Frendling was straightforward and completely honest with me during the recruiting process. He told me that I was going to have the opportunity to play right away (as a freshman), which was what I was looking for. I think that the coaches have put together a good team that is heading into the right direction,” he stated.
In addition, Faron has been playing his summer baseball with the Rawlings Prospects out of St. Louis, which included a couple of players who were selected in the Major League Baseball Amateur Draft in June.
“It’s great playing with those guys (on the Rawlings team) because you pick up on certain thing and you get to watch them pitch every day. You get to watch them hit every day and they help you get better,” Faron said.
Another connection that Faron has to Chicago is one of his prep teammates – Jake Powers – will be an incoming freshman player on the UIC baseball team to which he will stay in contact with during their transitions to their respective schools.
“We’re both excited (to be playing at Division I schools in Chicago) and we’ll push each other to succeed,” he added. “We will check in on each other from time to time and he is hoping that CSU and UIC will face each other in the near future.”
Faron joins Miguel Camacho (Chicago, Ill.), Andy Fitzpatrick (Bremen, Ill.), Billy Les (Oak Lawn, Ill.), Christian Prince (Hudsonville, Mich.) and Colton Tortorello (Mundelein, Ill.) as newcomers for the 2010 season.
