CHICAGO – Chicago State women’s cross country/track and field head coach Pristina Jones has announced the signing of five student-athletes to National Letters of Intent for the 2009-10 season. The newcomer class comprise of student-athletes from four states, including two from the Chicago area.
“I am excited about the signing of these young ladies for the upcoming season and I feel that they will be capable of achieving great success academically and athletically during the year,” said Jones.
Danielle Brookins – Sprinter – Chicago, Ill./Harper
Two-year All-Public League and All-State honoree in her final two prep seasons… helped Harper to a city title in the 4x200-meter relay and a second-place showing in the 4x400-meter relay at the 2009 Chicago Public League Indoor Championships… posted personal-best times of 12.2 in the 100-meter dash, 24.99 in the 200-meter dash and 58.9 in the 400-meter dash.
Gretchen Lamar – Sprinter – Des Moines, Iowa/Hoover
Won Iowa state title in the 200-meter dash as a sophomore in 2007… recorded top times of 11.6 in the 100-meter dash, 25.01 in the 200-meter dash and 58.6 in the 400-meter dash.
Sharifah Robertson – Sprinter – Rockville Center, N.Y./South Side
Captured all-county honors in the 100 and 200-meter dashes in addition to the 4x100-meter relay… won county championships in the 100m and 200m… also helped the South Side 4x200 relay team to a conference title… recorded personal-best rimes of 7.0 in the 55m, 12.3 in the 100m and 25.5 in the 200m.
Olivia Sloss – Distance – Country Club Hills, Ill./Hillcrest
Co-captain for the Hillcrest cross country team… notched times of 20:10 in cross country, 2:30 in the 800-meter run and 13:01 in the 3,200-meter run… helped Hillcrest finish third at the 2008 IHSA Class 3A Rich East Regional in cross country…
Amber White – Hurdles – Locust Grove, Ga./Ola
Back-to-back Ola H.S. Team MVP in 2007 and 2008… earned three AAA region championships in the 100-meter hurdles (2008) and the 300-meter hurdles (2007-08)… two-time nominee for the Henry County Girls Track Athlete of the Year in 2007 and 2008… posted personal-best times of 15.20 in the 100m hurdles and 45.62 in the 300m hurdles… also played in the school’s marching band.
