Women’s Track Stands Tied for Fifth Following Second Day of Great West Outdoor Championships

HOUSTON –
Chicago State women's track and field finished with three top ten finishes after completing the second day of the inaugural Great West Conference Outdoor Championships Friday at the Rice University Track Stadium in Houston.

 

The Cougars are tied for fifth place with three points entering the final day of competition on Saturday.

 

Freshmen Lanesha Sutton (Lansing, IL/Thornwood) (Lansing, Ill.) and Neshia Robertson (South Holland, IL/Thornwood) (South Holland, Ill.) completed the heptathlon by placing seventh and eighth, respectively. Sutton scored 2,588 points and Robertson tallied 2,502 points.

 

Sutton placed fifth in the shot put and seventh in the javelin throw, while Robertson finished fourth in the 800-meter run and fifth in the long jump among the final three events.

 

Senior Nicole McFadden (Chicago, IL/East-West University) (Chicago, Ill.) started off the running events well as she finished 10th in the 100-meter dash prelims with a time of 12.88.

 

The Cougars close their first outdoor conference championship meet in two years today starting at 3 p.m. Sophomore Chennelle Martin (Indianapolis, IN/Ben Davis HS) (Indianapolis, Ind.) will compete in the high jump finals and junior Jasmine Allen (Evergreen Park, Ill.) will compete in the 800-meter run finals, while CSU enters the field in the 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relay events later in the day.
