First Day Results
HOUSTON – Chicago State men’s and women’s track & field concluded the first day of the inaugural Great West Conference Outdoor Championships on a good note Thursday at the Rice University Track Stadium in Houston.
In the men’s decathlon, sophomore Daniel Fleming (South Holland, Ill.) is currently in second place with a score of 3,416 points heading into today’s final events. Fleming captured victories in the long jump (23-01.25) and high jump (6-02.75), while placing second in the 100-meter dash (11.33), 400-meter dash (53.10) and the shot put (30-05.50).
Freshman Lanesha Sutton (Lansing, Ill.) has produced 1,756 points following the first four events of the heptathlon, while fellow classmate Neshia Robertson (South Holland, Ill.) has tallied 1,154 points.
Sutton tied for fourth place in the high jump after recording a jump of 4-06.75 and placed fifth in the shot put with a throw of 29-10.25.
Sophomore Robert Holmes (Chicago, Ill.) closed the first day for CSU by finishing 12th in the men’s hammer throw after posing a mark of 106-00.
The Cougars are back in action today with the second day of events, including the conclusion of the heptathlon and decathlon events. The field events kick off at 4 p.m., while the running events will start at 5:30 p.m.
