CHICAGO (April 15, 2009) – Chicago State men’s golf concluded its regular-season tournament slate Tuesday with a sixth-place finish at the Caputo Invitational, hosted by Loyola in Hawthorn Woods, Ill.
The Cougars closed the tournament with a team score of 667 to finish nine strokes ahead of seventh-place North Dakota State, while Green Bay captured the team title with a 615 that includes a 298 in the final round.
Junior Chris Blankenship (Oak Lawn, Ill.) led CSU with an eighth-place finish by carding a 157, including a six-over-par 78 on the second day of competition. Junior Briano Molinaro (Chicago, Ill.) posted a 160 [82-78] for the tournament en route to placing 16th, while freshman Andrew Pleasant (Louisville, Ky.) finished 34th with a two-day score of 171 [87-84].
Also competing for the Cougars were freshman Lorne Boutte (Richton Park, Ill.), who finished in a tie for 38th with a score of 179 [97-82] and freshman Josh Worely (Calumet City, Ill.) placed 42nd with a score of 196 [105-91].
CSU heads to Mattoon, Ill., this Friday to competed in a triangular match against Eastern Illinois and SIU Edwardsville starting at 2 p.m. The tri-match will served as the Cougars' preparation for the inaugural Great West Conference Championships to be held at the Sienna Plantation Golf Course, beginning this weekend.
