CHICAGO – Chicago State men’s golf opened the spring portion of its 2008-09 season Tuesday afternoon with a fifth-place finish at the UT Martin Grover Page Classic, held at the Fulton County Club in Fulton, Ky.
The meet was shortened to an 18-hole tournament as the original tournament was cancelled due to winter conditions at the Jackson County Club in Jackson, Tenn., last weekend. The host Skyhawks captured the team title with a team score of 282, while the Cougars tallied a team score of 328.
Junior Briano Molinaro (Chicago, Ill.) led CSU in the tournament with a 75 that included posting a 35 on the back nine for a 13th-place showing. Freshman Andrew Pleasant (Louisville, Ky.) carded a score of 79 to finish in a tie for 17 th.
Freshman Lourne Boutte (Richton Park, Ill.) finished 22nd with a score of 85, freshman Josh Worley (Calumet City, Ill.) finished in a tie for 23rd after recording a score of 89 and junior Chris Blankenship (Oak Lawn, Ill.) ended the day with a score of 94 for a 25th-place finish.
Earning medalist honors was UT Martin’s Matt Stephens, who posted a 66 in the tournament and a 32 in the front nine.
