CHICAGO – Chicago State baseball has announced that Indiana high school standout Dylan Sterrett to a National Letter of Intent to play for the Cougars starting in 2010-11.

Sterrett is a three-sport athlete at Frontier (Ind.) High School competing in football, basketball and baseball where he has earned numerous accolades for his athletic prowess, including all-state honors in all three sports. He competes as an infielder and pitcher for Frontier's baseball team.

During his junior season at Frontier, the 6-2, 185-pound Chalmers, Ind., right-hander posted an 11-0 record on the mound with four saves in leading his team to a 28-1 season record. He posted a 0.81 ERA and 112 strikeouts in 69 innings pitched in addition to throwing his first career no-hitter.

Sterrett also posted 44 hits, drove in 40 runs and blasted eight home runs at the plate. He garnered Midwest Conference and White County Player of the Year honors at the end of the season, while being named to the all-state, all-county, all-conference and all-area teams.

“Me being a pitcher, I tabbed Dylan as my No. 1 recruiting prospect this fall. I felt that he was going to come in right away and give us a lot of quality innings on the mound” said CSU assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Neal Frendling. “He will also be able to help us in the infield as he is also a very talented defensive infielder”

Sterrett is the second fall signee for the Cougars, joining East Kentwood (Mich.) standout Gavin Trevino. CSU will sign three to four more players during the spring NLI signing period.
