Kostyuk and Shepherd Gain Doubles Win as CSU Closes Road Swing at Toledo

Box Score

MAUMEE, Ohio – Chicago State women's tennis received a doubles win from the tandem of senior Mariya Kostyuk (Kyiv, Ukraine/International School) and freshman Iesha Shepherd (Nassau, Bahamas/Laurel Springs School) as it concluded a two-match road swing here today with a 7-0 defeat to host Toledo at the Shadow Valley Tennis Center.

Kostyuk and Shepherd recorded a close 7-6 (7-2) victory in the No. 1 doubles flight over UT's Sidnay Huck and Kokoro Chishaki to improve their record to 7-7.

The No. 2 tandem of senior Lorea Gamboa (Gamiz-Fika, Spain/Larramendi Ikastola) and Anastasiia Goncharova (Smolensk, Russia) dropped a 6-4 decision to Thalita Rodrigues and Mimi Kendall-Woseley while the Rockets took the third flight by default for an early 1-0 lead.

Toledo swept all of the singles matches to claim the victory despite senior Leshia Gadacz (Toronto, Ontario/Loretto Abbey) battling tough in her No. 4 flight match against Dee Dee Leenabanchong. Gadacz won the first set by a 6-4 margin before falling in the final two sets via scores of 2-6 and 0-1 (2-10).

The Cougars are back in action on Jan. 26 with their home debut at the H-F Racquet and Fitness Club in south suburban Homewood against Green Bay with a start time of 4 p.m.
