CSU Women’s Tennis Earn 7-2 Win over McKendree

O'FALLON, Ill. – The Chicago State women's tennis team earned a 7-2 win over NCAA Division II member McKendree here Saturday at the St. Clair Tennis Club as it continued its five-match road swing.

After the Bearcats capture a forfeit win at No. 3 doubles, the Green and White claimed the final two doubles contests for a 2-1 advantage.

Junior Mariya Kostyuk (Kyiv, Ukraine/International School) and freshman Judit Aubets (Major, Sanauja, Spain/Lluis Peguera) dropped Tori Lindsay and Jess Molinari in quick fashion by a score of 8-0 at No. 2. Redshirt senior Carynne Lloyd (East Lansing, Mich./East Lansing) and junior Lorea Gamboa (Gamiz-Fika, Spain/Larramendi Ikastola) closed out the doubles portion for CSU after claiming an 8-3 win over Anna Mernick and Kaela Mack in the No. 1 flight.

The Cougars captured wins in five of the six singles flights to finish the match that began with Kostyuk making quick work of Mernick at No. 1 by scores of 6-1 and 6-0.

Gamboa went on to record a 6-0, 6-1 victory in the No. 2 flight over Lindsay then Lloyd posted a win at No. 3 over Mack by scores of 6-0 and 6-4.

Aubets won her match at No. 4 with a 6-0, 6-4 duke over Molinari, and senior Hanna Pangestu (Jakarta, Indonesia) concluded singles play after defeating Kaylie Comley via scores of 6-1 and 6-2.

CSU concludes its weekend slate on Sunday at SIU Edwardsville with a start time of 1 p.m.
