Carbondale, Ill. – The Chicago State men's tennis team was defeated by the Southern Illinois Salukis 5-1 on Saturday evening (Feb. 15).
Junior
Rashley Yeremia (Jakarta, Indonesia/) scored the Cougars' only point when he took down Jeremy Dixon 6-1, 3-6, 11-9 at No. 6 singles.
The Salukis picked up five singles points to win the match. Jonny Rigby beat junior
Sergiu Muresan (Roman, Romania/) 6-4, 4-6, 6-0. Freshman
Uros Pajic (Smederevo, Seribia/Maple Valley) lost 6-0, 6-0 to Jorge Cavero while junior
Luis Ulloa (Guayaquil, Ecuador/) also went down 6-0, 6-0 to Filip Aleksic. Junior
Mario Noboa (Santo Domingo de los Colorados, Ecuador/) lost 6-3, 6-0 to Michal Kianicka. Szymon Opieczonek was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over junior
Julian Chavez (Bogota, Colombia/).
Since Southern Illinois clinched the victory, the doubles matches were not played.
The Cougars fell to 0-8 in the spring while the Salukis improved to 3-4. Chicago State returns to action when they take on South Dakota State at the Homewood-Flossmoor Racquet and Fitness Club next Friday (Feb. 21). The match is scheduled to begin at 1:00 PM.Â
