HOMEWOOD, Ill. – In their final match before heading down to Florida for spring break, Chicago State men's tennis suffered a 6-1 loss to Southern Illinois on Sunday (March 10) morning.
The Cougars' lone win came at No. 3 singles where sophomore
Julian Chavez (Bogota, Colombia/) took down Rafael Cuadrillero with ease 6-4, 6-1. The match could have swung toward the Cougars if the three set contests at No. 1 and No. 2 singles went to Chicago State. Instead Brandon Florez defeated sophomore
Sergiu Muresan (Roman, Romania/) 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 6-1 at No. 1 and Jorge Cavero topped sophomore
Mario Noboa (Santo Domingo de los Colorados, Ecuador/) 6-7 (4-7), 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2.
Southern Illinois is now 8-2. Chicago State falls to 1-12. The Cougars head to Florida this week for three matches. First up is Robert Morris (Pa.) on Tuesday.
