FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Chicago State University women's golf produced its highest finish so far this spring as it finished second today at the IPFW Spring Classic, held at the Pine Valley Golf Course in Fort Wayne, Ind. It also marks the third consecutive top-five finish this spring for the Green and White.
The Cougars finished the two-day tournament with a score of 662, which included a 327 in the first round of play, and had two players finish in the top 10 in addition to finishing ahead of seven NCAA Division I opponents from the Summit League, Ohio Valley and Horizon League conferences.
The University of Indianapolis captured the team title with a score of 640, while Lewis University's Leila Marquet edged Indy's Darin Pinnick in a playoff hole for medalist honors after both golfers finished with a 158 after 36 holes of play.
CSU was paced by junior Diana Flores (Torreon, Coah, Mexico/Instituto Alpes) (Torreon, Coah, Mexico) as she finished the tournament in a tie for sixth place with Amy Thompson from the University of Indianapolis and Detroit's Collette Hansen after posting a score of 161 (78-83) which included connecting on 17 par putts.
Junior Andrea Rosado (Sabana Grande, Puerto Rico/American Heritage School) (Plantation, Fla.) recorded a team-best three birdies en route to posting a score of 165 while finishing with a 78 in the second round to finish in a tie for 10th place with Indianapolis' Brianna and Jaclyn Schneider.
After tallying 17 par putts with Flores and finishing even on Par 5 scoring, sophomore Brooke Melvin (Temecula, Calif./Great Oak) (Temecula, Calif.) posted a score of 166 (79-87) to place in a four-way tie for 13th place.
Sophomore Jessica Peatross (Lansing, Mich./Holt) (Lansing, Mich.) placed in a tie for 22nd place with a score of 170 (83-87) and senior Brianna Hickman (Tucson, Ariz./Tucson) (Tucson, Ariz.) rounded out the scoring with a 176 (87-89) to finish tied for 37th place.
CSU returns to action this weekend in Peoria, Ill. for the annual Hotels at Grand Prairie Invitational, hosted by Bradley University.
