CHICAGO – Chicago State University men's golf concluded its regular season schedule on April 12-13 with the Detroit Titans Invitational, held at the Prestwick Village Golf Course in Highland, Mich.
The Green and White finished 13th in the tournament with a score of 990 through three rounds of play. Loyola University Chicago edged Ferris State (Mich.) by one stroke to win the team title after carding an 865 and Western Illinois' Kurt Slattery won medalist honors with a score of 209.
Senior Lorne Boutte (Richton Park, IL/Rich South) (Richton Park, Ill.) led CSU with a score of 238 over 54 holes and finished in a tie for 54th place, and senior Josh Worely (Calumet City, IL/Home School) (Calumet Park, Ill.) carded a score of 248 to finish 64th with a 78 in the second round.
Freshman Dan Cronin (Evergreen Park, IL/Evergreen Park) (Evergreen Park, Ill.) placed 66th in the tournament thanks to a score of 253.
Playing as individuals, junior Tim Mercer (Gary, Ind./Roosevelt) (Gary, Ind.) and freshman Brandon Skelding (Black River Falls, Wis./Black River Falls) (Black River Falls, Wis.) finished 67th and 68th after recording scores of 256 and 257, respectively.
Other Cougars competing in the tournament were juniors Kyle Siefert (Alsip, Ill.) and Kyle White (Braidwood, Ill./Reed Custer) (Braidwood, Ill.).
CSU is idle from competition until May 1-2 when it heads east to North Stonington, Conn. for the third-annual America Sky Championship, hosted by the University of Hartford.
