Men’s Track & Field Takes Fourth Place at Chicagoland Championships

Jamal Ephraim set a new meet record and tied a CSU record in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.97 at the Chicagoland Championships

CHICAGO – The Chicago State men's indoor track & field team captured three first-place finishes en route to placing fourth in the annual Chicagoland Championships on Feb. 10-11 at the A.B. Clarius Track in Naperville, Ill.

The Cougars recorded 53 points in the meet, while producing eight top ten showings overall, led by senior Jamal Ephraim (Hazel Crest, IL/Lincoln College) (Hazel Crest, Ill.) and sophomore Kelvin White (St. Petersburg, FL/Lakewood) (St. Petersburg, Fla.). 

Ephraim finished first in the 60-meter dash after crossing the finish line with a time of 6.97 which set a new meet record and equaled a school record for the event. He later finished second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.54.

White placed first in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.33 after posting a time of 8.18 in the prelims to advance to the finals. The second-year athlete then captured second place in the long jump after securing a mark of 22-8.50. 

In the 4x200-meter relay, White teamed with redshirt junior Jonathon Majors (Richton Park, Ill./Thornwood) (Richton Park, Ill.), sophomore Jeremy Anderson (Springfield, IL/Lanphier) (Springfield, Ill.) and freshman Denzel Tucker (Chicago, Ill./Leo) (Chicago, Ill.) to finish first with a time of 1:31.99.

Redshirt senior Daniel Fleming (South Holland, IL/Thornwood) (South Holland, Ill.) placed fifth in the long jump with a mark of 21-10.75 and Majors finished sixth in the triple jump thanks to a leap of 43-3  

Anderson later joined junior Matthew Jordan (Mogadore, OH/Field) (Mogadore, Ohio) and Samuel McKinney (St. Charles, Iowa/Interstate 35) (St. Charles, Iowa), and freshman Brandon Skelding (Black River Falls, Wis./Black River Falls) (Black River Falls, Wis.) to earn a ninth-place showing in the distance medley relay after posting a time of 11:04.19.

CSU heads to Milwaukee, Wis., this Friday to compete in the annual Panther Tune-Up, hosted by Milwaukee, in its final preparation for the Great West Conference Indoor Championships later this month.
