Chicago State Men's Basketball Plays Concordia In Home Opener On Tuesday

Cougars look to build off of Friday's contest at UW-Green Bay

Chicago State men's basketball (0-1) hosts Concordia Chicago (0-0) in Chicago State's 2012-13 home opener on Tuesday (Nov. 13) at 7:05 p.m. The contest is an exhibition game for Concordia. Chicago State opened the year with a loss at UW-Green Bay. Concordia lost at St. John's in an exhibition on Nov 6 87-36. Tuesday's contest will be Chicago State's final home game until Nov. 29 against Trinity Christian.

ALL TIME SERIES -
Chicago State leads the all-time series with Concordia 2-0.

LAST TIME WE MET -
The two clubs last met on Nov. 12, 2010 at the Jones Convocation Center. Chicago State won 79-75. Victor Scott had 22 points for Chicago State in the contest.

TURN, TURN, TURN -
Chicago State forced 30 UW-Green Bay turnovers on Friday. It's the most forced turnovers by a Chicago State team during the Tracy Dildy era.

PERIMETER DEFENSE -
Chicago State limited UW-Green Bay to just 1-for-17 (5.9 percent) shooting from beyond the arc. It's the fewest 3-pointers a Tracy Dildy Chicago State coached team has allowed.

RELATIVE GREATNESS -
Junior Quinton Pippen (Hamburg, Ark./Hamburg) is the nephew of former Chicago Bull Scottie Pippen. Not surprising, Quinton wears No. 33.

NEW AND IMPROVED -
Senior Jeremy Robinson (Decatur, Ill./Eisenhower) was named the 2011-12 Great West Conference Newcomer of the Year last season.

HE'S BACK -
Senior Jeremy Robinson (Decatur, Ill./Eisenhower) is the Great West Conference's leading returning scorer (13.6) and rebounder (7.5).

PRESEASON ACCOLADES -
CollegeBasketballTalk.com and CollegeSportsMadness.com each pegged senior Jeremy Robinson (Decatur, Ill./Eisenhower) as their 2012-13 Preseason Great West Conference Player of the Year Selection.

BRAINS AND BRAWN -
In the classroom, Jeremy Robinson (Decatur, Ill./Eisenhower) was a CSU  Athletic Director's Honor Roll choice last year for a GPA over 3.50. Nate Henry (Chicago, Ill./Farragut) was named a Cougar Scholar Athlete for a GPA between 3.00 and 3.49

HOMEGROWN TALENT -
The Chicago State roster features 12 Illinois natives.

UP FOR THE CHALLENGE -
Chicago State's non-conference opponents posted a combined record of 321-315 last season. The Cougars' Division I non-conference foes averaged 16.5 victories last season.

MAJOR AWARDS AT JUNIOR COLLEGE -
Junior Jamere Dismukes (Park Forest, Ill./Rich East) earned First Team All-NJCAA Region IV Division II honors at BlackHawk College. Nate Duhon (Lansing, Mich./Sexton) picked up Second Team NJCAA Division II All-American and  Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) Player of the Year honors at Lansing CC.

ON THE ROAD AGAIN -
Chicago State will play road games in 11 different states this year.

OUR HOUSE -
Thanks to visits by DePaul and Loyola to the Jones Convocation Center this year, 2012-13 will be the first time Chicago State won't play a road game at DePaul, Loyola, UIC or Northwestern since 2007-08.

JOE CIPRIANO NEBRASKA CLASSIC -
The Joe Cipriano Nebraska Classic features seven teams - Nebraska, Kent State, Valparaiso, Tulane, Nebraska-Omaha, Bethune-Cookman and Chicago State - playing four games each over a 10-day period from Nov. 15 to Nov. 24. Chicago State will play Kent State, Tulane, Valparaiso and either Bethune-Cookman or Nebraska Omaha as part of the event. The event honors the contributions of Joe Cipriano to the Nebraska basketball program. He served as the Huskers' head coach from 1963 until 1980, when he died of cancer just four days short of the start of his 18th season.
