CHICAGO – The Chicago State women's cross country team opened the 2009 season with a fourth-place finish the UIC Season Opener at Horsetail Lake in Palos Hills, Ill., during Labor Day Weekend on Sept. 5. Joining the Cougars and the host Flames were Horizon League schools Milwaukee and Green Bay.
Leading CSU in her first collegiate competition was sophomore Shekeshia Brown (Bolingbrook, Ill.) as she placed 21st on the two-mile course and finished with a personal-best course record time of 13:30.5.
Sophomore Neshia Robertson (South Holland, IL/Thornwood) (South Holland, Ill.) posted a 26th-place finish in the meet as she crossed the finish line with a time of 14:03.1, also a personal-best course record.
In her first collegiate meet, freshman Lauren Marsh-Buntrock (Wylie, TX/Wylie) (Wylie, Texas) completed the course with a personal-best course mark of 14:04.8, good for a 27th-place finish in the meet.
Also finishing the meet for the Cougars were freshman Olivia Sloss (Country Club Hills, IL/Hillcrest) (Country Club Hills, Ill.) and sophomore Lanesha Sutton (Lansing, IL/Thornwood) (Lansing, Ill.). Sloss posted a time of 16:15.4 for a 28 th-place showing, while Sutton finished 29 th with a time of 24:00.2
CSU is back in action this Saturday as it travels to DeKalb, Ill., to compete in the Northern Illinois Huskie Open beginning at 12:15 p.m.
