Chicago State Men’s Basketball To Air On WVON 1690 AM

You can hear Chicago State basketball on WVON 1690.
CHICAGO – As the Chicago State University men's basketball team reaches the homestretch of their season fans will now have a new way to follow the Cougars as they race for a Great West Conference title. Selected Chicago State men's basketball games will air live on WVON 1690 AM, Chicago State Athletic Director Dan Schumacher announced on Tuesday (Feb. 19).

“Increasing our reach within in the Chicagoland market is one of the main goals for the department and this is another step for Chicago State,” Schumacher said. “I believe this can be the start of an important relationship with WVON.”

The first broadcast will be Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013 vs. Texas-Pan American. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. The second broadcast will be three days later (Feb. 26) when the Cougars face Eastern Illinois at the Jones Convocation Center. Tip is set for 7:00 p.m.

The rest of the WVON schedule will be determined by Chicago State's run in the 2013 Great West Conference Tournament March 14-16. The Cougars are hosting the GWC Tournament at the Jones Convocation Center for the second consecutive season. Should the Cougars advance to the semifinals on Friday, March 15 or championship on Saturday, March 16, both of those games will air on WVON. Tipoff would be 7:30 p.m. for both days.

A 15 minute pregame show will air before each contest.

"We are excited to partner with Chicago State University and their outstanding athletic program to showcase the men's basketball team on WVON," Program Director for WVON Todd Ronczkowski said.

Chicago State graduate Jimmie Smith Jr. will handle play-by-play duties and local broadcaster Emil Williams Jr. will do the color commentating.

The radio deal with WVON is the latest broadcasting agreement for the Cougars. Select Chicago State games have aired on Lakeshore Public Television this season.
