PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – Chicago State volleyball opened its 11-match home schedule this season here today with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-21) defeat to visiting Radford at the Palos Courts. CSU saw its record drop to 0-8 on the young season while the Highlanders improved to 3-5 this year.
Freshman Valeria Desiderio (Chicago Heights, Ill.) produced a season-high 11 kills in the contest for Chicago State. Senior Hanya Minta (Eden Prairie, Minn.) recorded her second double-double of the season as she tallied 22 assists and 14 digs, while freshman Mysta Townsell (Gardnerville, Nev.) excelled defensively for the Cougars as she posted a season-high 18 digs.
Radford was led by junior Megan McWhorter’s double-double of a match-high 14 kills and 11 digs, and freshman Emily Carlin contributed 10 kills and a match-best three service aces on the day. Sophomore Desiree Aramburu posted a match-high 32 assists and freshman Storm Melnick added 11 digs for the Highlanders.
The Cougars head to Ann Arbor, Mich., this weekend to compete in the Michigan/adidas Invitational that begins Friday with a 4 p.m. contest against Miami (Ohio).
