CHICAGO – Chicago State University (CSU) baseball announces the signing of South Suburban College pitcher David Sindewald (Lansing, Ill.) to compete for the Cougars starting with the 2010-11 school year and will have two seasons of eligibility beginning next spring.

“I plan on Dave being one of the key parts of our pitching staff that is going to help turn Chicago State baseball in the right direction,” CSU assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Neal Frendling said.

Sindewald, a 6-3, 210-pound right hander, recorded a 5-5 record with a 2.70 earned run average while tallying 47 strikeouts and 18 walks in 70 innings thrown during his sophomore season at South Suburban. He posted 10 strikeouts against Prairie State and struck out seven batters in a season-best eight innings thrown at Joliet Junior College.

As a freshman in 2009, Sindewald posted a 4-1 record and a 1.72 ERA with a save in helping the Bulldogs to a 32-18 season record and advance to the NJCAA Region 4 championship game. He recorded 31 strikeouts and walked only nine batters en route to capturing NJCAA All-Region 4 honors and received the team's Michael J. Pippen Award.

Sindewald earned all-conference honors as a senior at Thornton Fractional (T.F.) South High School in Lansing, Ill., and helped the Rebels capture the 2008 Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Class 4A T.F. South regional championship.

“I really liked the fact that Coach Frendling told me that the coaching staff wanted to bring in more pitchers that will help the team compete this year. As a baseball player, I like to compete and want to be competitive. I also like to see what we can do against teams in the Great West Conference,” said Sindewald.

Sindewald will join Dylan Sterrett (Chalmers, Ind./Frontier) (Frontier, Ind.) and Gavin Trevino (Jenison, MI/East Kentwood) (East Kentwood, Mich.), who signed with CSU last fall, as newcomers to the team in August.
