Junior Jamal Ephraim placed first in the 200-meter dash and third in the 55-meter dash at the Chicago Duals

CHICAGO (Feb. 2, 2010) – Chicago State men’s track & field looked to continue its successful early stride from its season-opening meet as it competed at the annual Chicago Duals on Jan. 30 in the Henry Crown Fieldhouse at the University of Chicago. CSU responded by posting 11 top-ten finishes in the meet, including seven top-five showings.

Junior Jamal Ephraim (Hazel Crest, Ill.) led the way for the Cougar sprinters as he captured first place in the 200-meter dash with a PR time of 22.88 and finished third in the 55m at a personal-best time of 6.67.

Sophomore Jonathan Majors (Richton Park, Ill.) ran a time of 6.60 in the 60m to finish second and finished the 200m race at a time of 23.30 to capture eighth place. Fellow classmate Uri Kuyoro (Harvey, Ill.) posted a top-ten double of his own by placing second in the 400m (51.88) and seventh in the 200m (23.23), while sophomore Jershawn Dubose (Chicago, Ill.) ran a personal-best time of 8.40 to finish third in the 55-meter hurdles.

Junior Earnest Jones (Melrose Park, Ill.) recorded a third-place finish behind Kuyoro in the 400m race with a time of 51.97 and senior Josh Campbell (Cartersville, Ga.) captured third in the long jump after posting a mark of 19-6.00.

Freshman Matthew Jordan (Mogadore, Ohio) and senior Anthony Davis (Gurnee, Ill.) each set personal-best times en route to top-ten finishes in the 5,000-meter run. Jordan placed sixth at a time of 16:33.37, while Davis finished the race in ninth place with a time of 20:33.55.

“We continue to make good progress towards conference,” said CSU head coach Wayne Holloway following his team’s performance.

The Cougars travel to South Bend, Ind., this weekend to compete in the annual Meyo Invitational, hosted by Notre Dame at the Loftus Center. The meet begins Friday evening at 5 p.m. and 9 a.m. on Saturday morning.
