CHICAGO, Ill. – Chicago State women’s basketball head coach Angela Jackson has announced today the signing of Ruby Barnes (Chicago, Ill.), Caneka Davis (Chicago, Ill.) and Caila Desroches (Long Island, N.Y.) to National Letters of Intent for the 2009-10 season.
All three players captured all-state honors and led their respective teams to championship seasons during their prep careers. Barnes, Davis and Desroches will join eight returning players from last season’s team that finished with a program-tying 16-13 record and advanced to the championship game of the 2009 National Independent Tournament.
“We are very excited about the addition of these three young ladies to our Chicago State Cougar family,” Jackson stated. “Ruby, Caneka and Caila are exceptional athletes but are quality people as well.”

Ruby Barnes

Posted averages of 19.6 points and six assists per game during her final prep season at John Hope… earned All-Chicago Public League and All-Public League Windy City Central section honors in 2008-09… helped the Lady Eagles capture the 2008 Public League title and a semifinal appearance in the 2007 Public League Tournament… competed in the 2009 Public League All-Star Game as a member of the South squad… rated No. 46 in the nation by ESPN HoopGurlz.com in 2009… played AAU basketball for the Chicago Hoops Express club where she was coached by Jerald Davis along with teammate Caneka Davis.

Claimed Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Class 1A/2A All-State Special Mention honors after her senior season at Walther Lutheran… played with teammate Ruby Barnes as members of the Chicago Hoops Express AAU Basketball team, coached by Jerald Davis.
Caila Derosches

Helped lead Monroe Community College to a 51-11 record during her two-year stint… averaged 18 points and 15 rebounds in her sophomore year en route to helping the Lady Tribunes advance to the NJCAA Division I Tournament... member of Monroe’s 2006-07 squad that posted a 30-3 record and finish seventh at the NJCAA Tournament. Produced 1,062 points during her prep career at Elwood-John Glenn High School, where she earned New York State Sportswriters Association (NYSSA) Class A First Team honors as a senior… was a New York Tri-State McDonald's All America nominee in 2006 after helping Glenn capture the Long Island Class A championship and a semifinal appearance in the New York State Tournament… averaged 21 points, 15 rebounds and two steals per game in final prep season en route to claiming First Team All-State honors in 2006… led Glenn’s volleyball team to a Class B state title in 2005 and captured First Team All-Long Island accolades… competed in AAU basketball for Exodus NYC, coached by Apache Paschall.
