CHICAGO – The Chicago State volleyball team concluded its Great West Conference weekend homestand at the Jacoby Dickens Center today with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-15, 25-18) loss to South Dakota. The match also served as the team's first-annual Lupus Awareness Match which gave fans the opportunity to learn more about this disease.
The Cougars fell to 0-23 (0-11) on the year, while the Coyotes improved their record to 12-14 (6-5).
CSU was led by senior Niena Posey (Chicago, IL/Lincoln College)'s (Chicago Heights, Ill.) six kills, and junior Hanya Minta (Eden Prairie, MN/Eden Prairie) (Eden Prairie, Minn.) produced a double-double of 15 assists and 11 digs. Freshman Kimberly Naut (Reno, NV/Galena) (Reno, Nev.) recorded five kills, while junior Brittany Hale (South Holland, IL/Grand View (Iowa)) (South Holland, Ill.) and freshman Rashonda Woods (Chicago, IL/Simeon) (Chicago, Ill.) each tallied nine digs for the Cougars.
Freshman Bailey Reshel paced South Dakota with a match-high 11 kills, sophomore Tahnee Reed added nine kills and redshirt senior Jenna Hatfield contributed eight kills. Redshirt senior Gina Baldwin posted a double-double of 38 assists and 12 digs, while freshman Mallory Mork recorded 13 digs and freshman Taylor Russell notched three block assists.
Chicago State travels to Valparaiso, Ind., this Tuesday (Nov. 10) to compete in its final road match of the season at the Athletics-Recreation Center against the host Crusaders. The first serve is set for 7 p.m., central time.
