Chicago State Cross Country Finishes Seventh at DePaul

CHICAGO – Chicago State cross country kicked off its 2008 schedule Friday afternoon by earning a pair of seventh-place finishes at the DePaul Cross Country Opener, held at the Channel Runne Park in Lincolnwood, Ill. The men’s team produced 220 points at the meet, while the women’s squad finished with 223 points.
Sophomore Joseph Leyendecker paced the Cougars with a time of 26:34.02 in the men’s four-mile course to finish 57th. Seniors Anthony Davis and Nicholas Chepkwony placed 58th and 59th, respectively, with times of 27:57.36 and 28:20.30. Senior Larry Harris claimed 60th place with a time of 31:22.00, sophomore Daniel Fleming finished 61st at a time of 32:31.00 and sophomore Jerrel Thornton placed 62nd with a time of 40:28.00.
In the women’s 4K race, freshman Brittany Williams led the Chicago State women with a time of 18:29.71. Freshman Neshia Robertson recorded a time of 18:50.55, freshman Lanesha Sutton finished with a time of 21:26.75 and senior TeLisa Dixon posted a time of 23:45.75. Rounding out the pack for CSU was freshman Ebon’e Morris with a time of 25:33.06.
The CSU women’s team will be back in action on Sept. 12 at the Bradley Open in Peoria, Ill., while both teams will compete together on Sept. 20 for the UW-Parkside Midwest Meet in Kenosha, Wis.
